Do your teas have caffeine?

Our teas have very little caffeine. Our Organic Teas from the Needwood Estate, and our Green Teas contain about 30mg of caffeine or about 2% caffeine. Our other traditional teas have approximately 55mg of caffeine or about 3% caffeine. A comparable cup of coffee contains about 180mg of caffeine. There is a simple procedure to remove most of the caffeine from your cup of tea. It is as follows:

  1. Put your tea bag in cup, and pour your hot water over the tea bag.
  2. After 30 seconds, remove the tea bag and dump the water from the cup.
  3. Place your tea bag back into the cup, and add more fresh hot water. Steep for 3-5 minutes, and enjoy!

The caffeine is the first thing that is released when the water is added. The color is next, and then finally the taste.

Ceylon tea from Sri Lanka is often acclaimed as the best tea in the world. The climate of this small and exotic country is ideally suited to producing a variety of delightful flavors and aromas.

Sri Lanka produces tea throughout the year, and the growing areas are mainly concentrated in the central highlands and southern inland areas of the island. Ceylon teas are broadly grouped under three headings according to the elevations at which they are grown. "High growns" are grown at elevations ranging from 1200 meters upwards, "medium growns" between 600 meters and 1200 meters and "low growns" from sea level up to 600 meters.

High grown teas from Sri Lanka are particularly reputed for their taste and aroma. The Original Ceylon Tea Company offers only high grown teas. You really can taste the difference.

How do I prepare tea?

Preparing a delicious cup of tea is easy! Fresh water and proper brewing time are the most important ingredients - once you have selected your favorite flavor or flavors from The Original Ceylon Tea Company.

Start with a preheated teapot or cup. A quick way to do this is to simply fill your teapot or cup with very hot water and let it stand for a moment.

To brew the tea, start with cold water. Some people prefer to use bottled or filtered water. Never use hot tap water. If you are using cold tap water, let the water run for a few seconds before using; this ensures that the water is aerated which helps to release the full flavor of the tea leaves. Bring water to a boil. As soon as the water has reached the boiling point, pour it onto the tea leaves or tea bag. Brew 3 to 5 minutes (for green teas, water should be a bit cooler and only steep for one to three minutes).

To make an 8 ounce cup of tea, use 1 teaspoon of tea as a guideline, then adjust to taste. Add sugar, milk or lemon if desired.

What are the best methods for storing tea?

Store tea in a clean dry airtight container free of foreign odors. Always use a dry spoon for scooping out the dry, loose tea, and close the container tightly after use to retain aroma and flavor.

Do not store tea in close proximity to items with a strong aroma such as soap, spices, herbs, and dried meats.
